The Artist's Palette is part of the Artist's Drive in Death Valley National Park. The Drive is rises to the top of an alluvial fan fed by a deep canyon in the Black Mountains. The Palette is on the face of the mountains, and is known for its beautifully varied rock color, hence its name. Colors are red, pink, yellow, green, and purple, and are all derived from oxidation of different metals such as iron salts, mica and manganese. The Palette and the Drive both contribute to favorable photo opportunities to behold nature's wonders.
