If you've ever watched the Star Wars movie "A New Hope" you've probably seen the Mesquite Sand Dunes. These sandy dunes are at the northern end of the valley floor and are nearly surrounded by mountains on all sides. The largest dune is called Star Dune, not because of Star Wars, but because of it is relatively stable, and it is at the point where various winds converge, forming it into the shape of a starfish.
