Description:
|
|
At the northernmost part of Death Valley this area is known for the preserved petroglyphs on its rocks. They were made by the now-extinct Mesquite Springs culture. The preservation of these glyphs are due to the desert varnish that covers and preserves them. It takes approximately 10 thousand years to make varnish only 1/100 of an inch thick. Because it is predictable, the varnish on the petrogylphs can be accurately estimated to be 2-3 thousand years old.
